Eligibility: Any high school student who has at least a 2.5 grade point average and will be a junior or senior in the fall of 2012 is eligible. The student must be active in extra curricular activities, planning or seeking the means to attend college and have transportation to and from Alpena, Michigan. Tuition: There is no cost to the student delegate. The refundable $20.00 deposit is no longer required. Posts who sponsor a delegate will pay the tuition cost of $150.00 Program Entry: To enter a student as a delegate, go to the VFW Dept. of MI website www.vfwmi.org. Click on ‘MI VFW Programs’, on the blue line at the top of the screen. Scroll down and click on ‘Michigan Freedom Academy’. On the screen that appears you will find the program guidelines. You will see ‘Click Here for your 2012 Delegate Application Form’. Click on it, then print and fill out the form. Please insure that the Sponsoring Post’s number, location (city, township. village, etc), post contact name and phone numbers are entered on the form. Send the form, along with the $150.00 sponsorship fee, to Department of Michigan VFW, 924 North Washington, Lansing, MI 48906. Make checks payable to Dept. Michigan, VFW with Michigan Freedom Academy in the memo section. All-State points: Posts will be awarded six (6) points for each Freedom Academy student delegate it sponsors or co-sponsors. Post will be awarded one (1) point for each $25.00 donated to the Freedom Academy program, up to a maximum of four (4) points for $100.00. All Freedom Academy application forms must be mailed to Department and all checks must be mailed to and made payable to Department, in order to insure your post receives credit.
