Norman Mauldin served in the United States Navy as a Machinist Mate from April 1984 to June 2006 when he retired as a Chief Petty Officer. During his 22 year of service he served on board the USS KITTYHAWK (CV-63), USS MARS (AFS-1), USS KANSAS CITY (AOR-3), USS MAUNA KEA (AE-22), USS KISKA (AE-32), and at Naval Technical Training Center Treasure Island, Naval Station Treasure Island Security, RTC Great Lakes as a CC/RDC, Naval Sea Systems Command Port Hueneme, and UNREP Division Service Schools Command Great Lakes.
While serving in the Navy, he received the Navy Commendation Medal (4); Navy Achievement Medal (3), Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon (2), Battle "E” (3), Navy Good Conduct Medal (6), Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (2), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Voluntary Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (5), Recruit Division Commander Ribbon, Expert Rifle Medal, Expert Pistol Medal, and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist Pin. He also earned his first bachelor’s degree in Workforce Education and Curriculum Development from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Norman joined the VFW in 2006. He served as Post Commander from 2010-2012 and earned the distinction as Captain of the "All State” Team in 2012. He also served as the Oakland County Council Commander, member of the Department Membership Team, and National Aide to Camp 2011 – 2012.
He earned his second bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology and received his license in 2017, from Michigan State University under the VA's Vocational Rehab Program.
He is currently a Life Member of Oxbow VFW Post 4156.
Norman has been happily married for 19 years to Su-jen Mauldin and has a daughter Cassandra.
