I joined
the US Army Reserves in November 1988 and attended Basic Training and Advanced
Individual Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama becoming certified as a Military
Police Officer. Throughout my career in the US Army, I had notable assignments
in the U.S., Germany, and Afghanistan.
After a
nearly 17-year break in service, I joined the MI Army National Guard in July
2011 and deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring
Freedom with the 144th Military Police Company out of Corunna, MI. I
then became a Department of Justice Instructor in 2013 instructing Afghan
National Army forces and Afghan National Police officers in Firearms and Quick
Reaction Force Response. I then became an Army certified Military Police
Instructor in 2015 and served as a Sergeant First Class (E7); Senior Instructor
assigned to Fort Custer’s 177th Regimental Training Institute in
Battle Creek. Additionally, I became certified as a Small Group Leader for the
Army Non-Commissioned Officer Education System, instructing soldiers and future
Army leaders in the Basic Leaders Course. I deployed again in January 2019 to
Bagram, Afghanistan in Support of Operation Inherent Resolve and was assigned
to the 4th Infantry Division and subsequently the 1stArmored Division. I retired as a Sergeant First Class from the US Army, MI
National Guard, in May 2023.
I joined
the VFW Harrison Post 1075 as a Life Member in March 2015 and became a Gold
Legacy Member in September 2025. I have served Post 1075 as a Trustee, Jr Vice
Commander, and have served as Post Commander since 2020. Alongside my Post
leadership team, I have led the Post in achieving both All-State and
All-American recognition from 2022 through 2026 with membership increasing from
64 in 2022 to the current 163 members.
I served
District 11 as the Jr Vice Commander from 2023 until March 2024 when I was
asked by the Department Commander to step into the role as District Commander
due to the untimely passing of our District Commander where I then served
through 2025. During my time as District Commander, District 11 achieved
All-State and All-American recognition for 2024-2025.
I currently
serve District 11 as the Chief of Staff for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. I have served
the Department of Michigan as the Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative
Director for 2025-2026. I have additionally served at the VFW National level as
Deputy Chief of Staff 2023-2024 and on the Veterans Service Resolution
Committee in 2024. I was appointed by the Commander in Chief and served as the
National Deputy Inspector General for 2025-2026 fiscal year. I currently serve
on the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund as a Board Member for Clare County. Additionally,
I am a Life Member of both the National Home and Camp Trotter.
I retired
from the Michigan State Police Mount Pleasant Post as a Sergeant with a
combined law enforcement career of nearly 35 years on December 25, 2021. My wife
Mindy and I have been married for 35 years. Mindy is also a Gold Legacy Life
Member of Harrison Post 1075. Mindy and I have two sons who are both serving in
the US Army/SC National Guard. They are currently on deployment in the Middle
East and are slated to return in the fall of 2026. Both of our sons are also
Gold Legacy Life Members of Harrison Post 1075.
I am very
humbled to have the opportunity to work alongside the Leadership within the
Department of Michigan, and I am honored to be a part of your leadership team. As
a member of your Department Leadership time, I will serve you, the members, within
the State of Michigan as a dedicated leader who will always be committed to
honesty, integrity, courtesy, and the future growth of our organization.
