BIG TEN CONFERENCE

The Department of Michigan is a member of the VFW Big Ten Conference, one of four regional conferences in the VFW.  The Conferences are quasi-official groups within the VFW providing a system of selecting National VFW leadership.
 
The Big Ten Conference consists of the ten Mid-West VFW Departments of:
Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Michigan
Minnesota
Missouri 
Nebraska
Ohio
South Dakota
Wisconsin
 
The Conference holds two meetings each year:  the third weekend in October and at the VFW National Convention.
The location of the October Conference meeting is on a rotation schedule amongst the member Departments.
The Conference leadership is by election each year at the October meeting.
Per Big Ten By-Laws the Department of Michigan has five (5) delegate votes on issues to be voted upon by the delegates at Big Ten Conference meetings.
Department of Michigan By-Laws provide that the following Department officers are Big Ten Conference delegates, referred to as the Big Ten Steering Committee:
Department Commander
Department Senior Vice Commander
Department Junior Vice Commander
Department immediate Past Department Commander
One member of the Department elected by the Department Convention delegates for a two year term in each even numbered year.
