Department Surgeon Michael Eckmyre served in the U S Navy from 1980 to 1985 as a boiler technician. Michael gained his VFW qualification while serving in the Beirut Conflict in 1983.

Michael has been a Life Member of the Owosso VFW Post 9455 for over 15 years.  He served as District 9 Commander from 2025 to 2026 after going through the District chairs.

Michael is also the current Shiawassee County Council Commander.
